A series about how pro and college football history connects with American history. Episodes often feature interviews with NFL and NCAA legends.

"The Game Before the Money Podcast" extends from Jackson Michael's acclaimed oral history of pro football published by the University of Nebraska Press. The book contained interviews with 40 NFL legends including Hall of Famers Frank Gifford, Bart Starr, and Carl Eller. The work not only chronicled the lives and careers of the players but also the evolution of civil rights and the growth of professional and collegiate sports in the American Culture.

Michael likes to say, "Football history is American history." Many aspects of American history indeed show up in the life stories of the men who played the game.
